DIY Back To School Pennant Flag

DIY Back To School Pennant Flag

As the new school year approaches, parents and students alike are preparing for the annual tradition of back-to-school photos. Capturing these moments is a great way to document growth and change over the years. To add a fun and creative touch to your back-to-school photos, I made these free printable pennant flags. Trust me when I say this, even the most non-crafty person can tackle this DIY.

Follow this easy step by step on how to create this adorable back to school pennant flag photo prop for those classic back to school photos! I even got to make these for my two girls who are going into Kindergarten and Preschool this year, and our first year together doing Homeschool. I was so happy to capture their giddy faces for the first day of school!

    How to Make Your Flag

    1. Download and save the free printable file that includes flags for every grade between Preschool and Senior Year.
    2. Once downloaded onto your desktop computer, print the page that has the grade you want to use for your photos. The file is 8.5"x11", so be sure your paper is the same size (letter size).
    3. Use any colored cardstock you want to add the pop of color. I used kraft browns, pastel pinks, blues, and a fun polka dotted scrapbook paper! You can have a lot of fun picking out subtle prints to make it playful.
    4. Once printed, use your scissors to carefully cut along the dotted line.
    5. Gently fold back the horizontal edge of the paper back.
    6. Flip the pennant flag over so you are now seeing the back. Add a strip of glue on the folded edge, and slide in your wooden dowel to the back, fold over and secure. Hold it for a few seconds so the glue dries. I had to also add a layer of packing tape to the back to secure the folded edge down.
    7. Tie some 12" inch ribbons around the base of the dowel and flag for some extra playfulness!

Just like that you have the cutest little photo prop for you back to school photoshoot! Now to just get the kiddos to smile! ;)
